While mostly true, remember that the King's Men, his troupe, was the most elite and popular theater company of the time, they were in direct sponsorship of the crown, so not really performing for country bumpkins, they just inserted a lot of stuff common people found fun even in serious plays, like all the euphemisms in Hamlet.
