@VulcanLogic I've heard that "stay woke" originally was a call for black people to be literally awake and aware of surroundings and context to avoid being lynched.

There's also the character count thing: in fact regardless if they refer to Christ or Current in ANY language, the ones that use same amount of symbols are better, especially in charts. BC was already BC, the extra E is redundant... до Р.Х. і від Р.Х. is neat, Н.Е. & д.Н.Е. is not... Imagine if AM/PM was AME/PM. This is how this system feels like. It's even worse when it has like two character spaces and monospace font, as clocks usually do, and other UIs that might use dates as well.

I just can't stand adding extra letter when it changes nothing, you can interpret BC anyhow, the extra letter and how it is articulated is just annoying, nothing to do with being used to it or religion for me as I grew up in post-Soviet Ukraine that had secularism forced on us and West not bullying people for having a religion or afraid to admit date is based on Christ was refreshing. Only for them to make adding more letters as pretentious statement of perceived superiority.

@GhostScout42 Anno Domini - in the year of Our Lord in old Italian. I have no idea why they used it, in other countries it's at least language consistent... doesn't excuse adding a redundant E to BC just to make people cringe.

@ulexite-tv just to make you less comfortable, regardless of what you call it, BC and CE dates still are roughly based to when Jesus told the Pharisees to shove it.

Because of character limit? No joke, I think AM/PM is incredibly stupid and also mixes Latin with human speech (Anno... Momini / Past Morning or something), but it's consistent in that it takes two characters on a display. BC/AD is similar mishmash (Before Christ / Anno Domini) but it also uses two characters for era slot. Adding "E" to BC is ridiculous as it is redundant, like imagine of clock was AME / PM with UIs jumping around because there's one more character in monospace fonts that are used for dates and numbers.

9:50 AD doesn't say Christ, it means Anno Domini, in the year of Our Lord, so if anything, it was the system that didn't say Christ... It's still not an excuse to add E to BC though.

@davidaustin6962 Our calendar wasn't made by Gregorian monks, but by Julius Caesar, who adopted a modified version of Egyptian system when he dated Cleopatra and visited her crib in Alexandria. It PREDATES Christianity, literally. The later version is called Gregorian because of Pope Gregory who fixed an error in a few hours that came to 14 days in 2000 years. Nothing to do with Gregorian order! Actually made by pagans in Egypt from a girl claiming to be daughter of Isis and a dude who was proclaimed a Roman god in Italy.

Julian calendar named after Raul Julia, obviously.

11:40 I cringe from BOTH, please don't mix Latin and English like that, but also don't make one two-letter and other three-letter abbreviation, it's activating my OCD. Should be BC/CE, anything else just sounds bad.
1
I don't think anyone really likes AD, it's the extra redundant E added to BC that makes scientists look like idiots who want to change something just to be different.

10:10 Ah yes, our current calendar, famously made by monk ...Julius Caesar, and later shifted 14 days by Pope Gregory. JULIAN calendar lmao, also NO WAY Italians used BC in ENGLISH FFS. There's so much cringe on these Americans who think everyone speaks English, AD isn't even that.
1
I am not American and was surprised that they get offended over wishing happy holidays to them... Adding extra E to BC is still stupid. That's like taking AM/PM and adding one more letter to AM just to annoy people. It's INCREDIBLY confusing when English is like your third language and they added BCE era, Before Christ Era era.
1
I mean, by pretending the date has nothing to do with Christianity you don't change what it is linked to... Also, people gonna pretend to ignore how ridiculous and redundant it is to add one more letter without changing meaning? YOU CAN SAY BC MEANS BEFORE COMMON ERA, WHY ADD "ERA" TWICE?! Why stop at that, if you need to say Before Common Era Era, why not add E to AM but not PM too so every digital clock farts itself, AME / PM... That'll show them Christians how to have even displays! (In my country we use other abbreviations, it's the Enlish who decided to ruin monospace font dates lining up are insane).
1
Fonts. I HATE that date doesn't line up when clock does. Charts look ugly. Imagine if they changed AM/PM to AMT/CT

The fact they keep mispronouncing it adds to the insult. Like you're FROM A PLACE THAT IS NOT PRONOUNCED CORRECTLY, gently eat your beans on toast with Worcestershire sauce (pronounced "Wooblya") because people who spell their cities with extra silent eieielester shouldn't be trusted.
