@highpath4776 IMO the gossiping women problem is an ever-present thing in every church, to this day, at least in Orthodox churches, more grandmas alienated young people from ever going into one than anything else. They're absolutely insufferable! What he didn't know is people complaining about old ladies having nothing to do but berate everyone over how they look, how they stand and how they breathe will be taken as a general directive to treat ALL women exactly the way we were treated in Rome, or worse, Greece.

This. It's ridiculous to expect people discussing their base beliefs in correspondence outside of a bad telenovella. You know, like when a show on TV has this awkward exposition: "Hello Timothy, my cousin on maternal's side in-law, as you remember how our teacher we went to school together in 42 AD said, back when you were living in Haifa with the missus... of course we are all members of the chess club as you surely know, which stands for unity, loyalty and cookies as stated in our motto written on the back cover of the brochure, anyway, how's your sister named Cassandra that I used to date in college we went to with Jacob doing?"

He converted to Judaism. But the date conventions have nothing to do with people's religion. There's plenty of non-Christians who use CE and plenty of Christians who use AD, it's irrelevant.
2
@StanTorrent irrelevant, almost no kings wrote their decrees personally, and definitely not in stone, scribes and carvers were a thing. Most people were illiterate until 20th century and in some backwards countries like USA, many still are.

Just don't translate wormwood to Ukrainian.

@smpark12 I want to add that Jesus brothers also could be either: Maria and Joseph's later kids, his kids from previous marriage, OR cousins. It's not clear in any point, but it's assumed he mentioned the same Jesus brothers from the Gospels, whatever familial relationship they had.

@SiqueScarface Galatians were a Celtic group of people frequently hired as mercenaries by Middle Eastern, Galatia they talk about is in Anatolia, but also there are MANY places with similar name (all sharing Celt-related etymology), like Galicia in BOTH Spain and Ukraine, with over 3000km between Vigo and Lvyv.

@fwcolb we don't know if John the Disciple, John the Evangelist, and John the Revelator were the same people. There was also John of Patmos who might be the latter. Or not. It's worse with Marias. Pretty clear that Mary of Bethany and Mary of Magdala are two different people, but Catholic church for no reason combined them both AND a third unnamed "sinful" woman into one character for a LONG time. But if you were on a Latino wedding, you'll understand.

I love Revelations because it's 1) Metal. 2) mentions a star called Chornobyl falling poisoning the rivers, author could have NO idea about stars having nuclear reactions in them. Or, you know, Ukrainian place names. Locals were called Scythians back then.
