  2. True. There's a speech in a House of Lords by Lord Byron where he spoke against the bill literally sentencing luddites to death for breaking property. He wasn't against industrial revolution, but against that state and society that left people so miserable: working was hard and hazardous, but they had no other options, and were left even without that.

  3.  @kuhluhOG  oh apart from crackdowns on strikes and trade unions, there were also infamous strikebreakers hired by companies as plants to sabotage the workers movements from the inside. The story of human rights is painted with blood, and we respect American human rights activists for paving the way for the rest of the world, where we didn't have to invent a bicycle and just followed their footsteps... well, outside of Soviet Union where worker protests were just shot.
