  2. US national debt is mostly internal - to its own citizens. So it's just money that's circulating in USA between investors and government. Comes with everything being privately owned. US owes money to American corporations, not other countries. Except a bit to Japan. Which gets US army perks so it's mutually beneficial.

  3. Gold by itself is pretty worthless now, though. A pack of $100 bills is worth more than double its weight in gold.) Dollar is backed by US economy. Every country's money works like that. Hell, most of money isn't even in paper now, it's the amount of credits you get for your work / investments that you spend on valuable commodities. Technically, you can exchange all of your digital money into paper cash, but why? Most of the time, we don't really need that anymore. I even buy frickin' cat litter with digital money now... xD
