Soviet editors used some insane writing gymnastics to frame ANYTHING as critique on capitalism or struggle for worker's rights to get it past the censors. Still government was savvy enough to downplay a lot of stuff so the things people DID rid from foreign literature was mostly stuff about casual life in USA like O. Henry or Alexandre Dumas's books about French nobility.

This is how most russians are. They know their government is corrupt, war is bad, yada-yada, but they all silently allow that to happen... for entirety of muscovy's existence, all 300 years or so. Note that there are no prison terms for refusing to join the army in russia, just a fine of 3000 roubles... that's 38 dollars. This is the amount of money the russians are willing to kill, and get killed. This is the price of their soul. Less than a videogame.

@carkawalakhatulistiwa who cares about your magic genie scores when millions starved to death because food was taken away by government? And then when it no longer was, shops were empty, even if you had money, good luck buying something you need. Plastic bags were washed and reused for YEARS. Toilet paper was a luxury and not even made when all budget was spent on rockets to kill people abroad.
