  1. Chinese also did a variation on that sometimes. Killing siblings to the heir was not as universal, but often influential generals and courtsmen that were important in the rise of a dynasty suddenly all appeared to be totally traitors... thinking of that, maybe Stalin copied that from China.

  3. England and France hating each other less during World Wars didn't help with Germany and russia invading literally everybody in Europe they could reach though.
