  2. Yes, but West tries REALLY HARD to prevent "Ordinary russian citizens" from feeling the war, hence the ban on long range strikes. Westerners are afraid that putin might get deposed if russians are unhappy, and they spend as many resources they can to keep him in power.   3. This is actually what their strategy is now: ignoring the invasion and pretending it wasn't a big deal, hoping USA or EU will stop Ukraine and defend russia, as they usually do. You already see extremely corrupt countries like Germany SUDDENLY blaming Ukraine for Nordstream instead of persecuting the lobbyists like Merkel and Schroeder for building it.
