I've read an article on Mali massacres and it said the local govt. thought the French were ineffective because they weren't brutal enough with civilians, and not because they were colonial troops considering themselves above learning the local dynamics.   5. Yup, Terminator 2 did even simpler and just added a blue filter on the night scenes. They were shot during the day. It's one of the best looking movies of all time with effects and cinematography aging well to this day, while every other movie from 2010s is unwatchable because everything is so dark.

  12. And we see how bright Egyptian art was, what little of colour remains now. Sphinx was also painted and re-painted and restored later! It just eroded over thousansd of years. A few select Greek rooms were also found mostly uneroded and the colours were absolutely horrible! Like 80s style clashing primary colours.

  20. One of the late-Soviet period buildings I lived in Ukraine was like that. Even though it was made from reinforced concrete, the cement connecting the blocks was so bad you could clear it away with a brush... it was mostly sand. We had one wall nearly collapse and had to fix it with new cement but the parts that are too big to fix with your own hands get the foam as filler. Foam is used around windows, door frames, and between insulation material to make the walls warmer, but also fixes big holes you can't just put putty in.

I can't imagine buildings made basically of sand in Odesa surviving something stronger than 7.0 earthquake. Old ones from imperial times probably... but anything made after 1920 and before 1991 is barely holding on.

  31. You can bump up auto contrast in Photoshop or just do literal S curve in curves tool, it fixes most of talentless film-makers. TVs, unfortunately, have only separate brightness and contrast and rarely proper tools for levels and curves.
