  1. I just watched a long Essay on Noam Chomsky, and it was mostly summarizing Bosnian war... I will be sick for the next few years after that... At least there weren't any questions about the guy's moral integrity, people in comments pointed out more genocides he supported. Then there was a video on "realists" by same guy, Kraut, and I decided that I had enough of watching things done to us now done to other people before for this decade.

  3. I think they copy the tropes from classic literature where everyone had someone dying from tuberculosis (that was realistic but we invented vaccines, pasteurization and antibiotics since)... so modern dramatic take would be cancer.

  5. Star Wars prequels were very commercially successful tho. Yoda doing flying kung-fu and other poor CGI was cringe, but at the time it was perfect popcorn fodder, we genuinely had fun watching them, then cringed at dialogue on rewatches.

  9.  @yunsurfed6153  for those who missed that Metal Gear games are based on mecha anime (Metal Gear is LITERALLY a mech), there's a whole Otacon's introduction that keeps hammering the point is that he's named after Otaku Convention, and the whole thing is about loving to watch big robots go boom! xD It's like, what if Gundam was a tactical espionage action. The only less subtle "war bad" parable than MGS is Fallout's "war never changes"... Both series are easy to get into, they're somehow less subtle than Godzilla.)))

  10. I still think a "movie critic" is a cringe thing to be. Like it started with some guy shitting on Kubrick and praising Adam Sandler and rest went like "oh I can also pretend to be quirky and interesting if I just say the opposite of what people think", and it went on into the essays in the style of "why people who find Chungking Express romantic are WRONG and here's why they shoudnb't like it", "Dead Poets Society is bad because a kid sent to military school against his will is great", or "Aladdin is a thief and meanie, Jasmine would be better off with Jaffar (so what he's 100 years old, kidnapped her farther, and plans to kill her after wedding night)". I legitimately can't tell whether people are trolling or serious about movies when they write about them, but I suspect they mostly aren't joking. I honestly mostly see angry contrarians who didn't get what the story is about (I noticed people who don't get the punchline of a joke are often enraged for some reason), and just post some confidently incorrect stuff about topics they don't understand as a take that to the people who did.

I actually managed to find a community worse than Star Wars fandom and no, I will not say it in fear for someone to actually join it to see... but it's hard to beat Star Wars fans in hating not just Star Wars, but the people who like them. The only difference between most Star Wars fans is which part of Star Wars they hate the most. It's a rare case where the company not giving a crap about the fandom works well because making films for casual, human audience makes them break bank while the minority of hardcore fanatics are all we see on internet.

  20. 1/10 great renders is lucky. I spend so many time trying various models, programs and prompts, it is LITERALLY faster to just draw something myself then retouch details with AI. TBH, people understood that and that's why img2img and ControlNET are so popular, you give AI more input data rather than relying on random. Months later after getting Stable Diffusion I still haven't made a picture of headless horseman rearing his horse in front of a burning castle. It's a simple thing too, and i wasn't trying ALL the time, it's just somethings are easy to make, like single human standing, and some things are harder... like... any... poses... or multiple people in same frame.

People giving movies a higher value than "heh, it's entertaining" don't get why most actually watch stuff. Kids movies and family films were never considered high-brow art, but make bucks because creators understand the market. That's why stuff like Star Wars will keep being successful while haters will still tear their hair out, failing to understand mass appeal working better than going for specific fandom's quirks.

  24. Sunset Boulevard is great, watch it! It starts with main guy dead, then he gets "hey that's me, you wonder how I got into that situation", and after he tells the story it has that woman go full on cray. For a very old movie it's very fun and not boring at all, I was surprised.

Stuff like this makes movie seem too difficult to understand but it's that boomers had played some random Waltz same way you'd use a meme nowadays. To understand most media, you kinda need to know the memes it relies on. That's why older stuff is tough, you're coming from a different cultural context, or, in a nutshell, your generation has different dirty jokes.

Like, I feel if it was worse, it would actually be more defendible and well, fun. But it's like... watching people in furry costumes hang around on a set. Eh, this one gets a pass: four ways media goes about it, most frequent one is how you cited, Starshucks or WcDonalds, anime loves it, second is acknowledging these fake names as ripoff stores in the show, I've seen characters being snarky about a chain store knockoff, third is sponsorship, SO many brands pay to be in some movie... Oh and finally there's also public domain or creators who don't give a crap putting real life stuff because it's either generalized enough or else.

Yes, I can't believe how many times I heard arguments ranging from putin having "legitimate concerns" (as russia bombs my city) to "russian soldiers aren't evil they're just brainwashed" (to steal washing machines?), explain your sympathy for russians to the mother whose child intestines were turned inside out with a missile. In real life, evil is just that, evil. You don't need to "understand" what's in dictator's head. Movies conditioned people to think about villain complexity while in reality he's just a psychopath who gets his dopamine fix from war crimes. One of my fav villain types is the eldritch horror. Sadako from the Ring doesn't give a crap about you, she just kills everyone she comes in contact with. The girl had a backstory but she's far gone from having any humanity left. Many horror villains are like that, they don't have a motivation we can comprehend. Reapers in Mass Effect were perfect villains as they acted JUST like russians, unredeemable monsters only sowing destruction everywhere... all until the third game decided to give them motivations, which is both unrealistic, and cheap, as it tried to make people sympathetic for literal omnicidal murderbots. Despite all before that establishing that even considering their viewpoint is cult-like indoctrination.

When videos are cuts of a stream or let's play it's awkward putting extra 15 second of nothing between episodes, so a lot of reasons people don't bother...

  56. To generate AI art, people render dozens, sometimes hundreds of pictures, then select a few for upscaling, then keep fixing those with inpainting... AI art right now has so many issues I give up and use Photoshop to finish my renders, and those are meme-grade things. The biggest issues in Stable Diffusion isn't even hands, and those can be fixed manually (hehe), it's inability to tell apart relation between items and draw separate distinct people. For example, you write "red shirt, long hair" and end up with red hair, and not ginger but actually RGB red. AI is VERY helpful for a lot of things (healing brush and auto-fill in Photoshop are AI too), but honestly, fine-tuning, for example, a voice synth, takes more effort than just speaking into microphone. Generated art IS faster than drawing, even if its bad, but it is MUCH better if you get involved, i.e. make a sketch to colorize, filter an existing image, or use control net, blender render etc. to begin. Yes, some people actually model things in a 3D program to screenshot them and put into AI art generator to make it look like drawing or photo. Companies saying it was made by computer not a person are manipulative, they say that to rid people of copyright. AI isn't thinking or acting on its own, saying person didn't make the pic when they inputted data and tuned the details is as ridiculous as saying you didn't make a picture when you just clicked the shutter. The anti-AI sentiment is really like anti-photo one from two centuries ago. "It's not real art, the camera made it", come on. And again, if I kept drawing more I would totally use AI to help with coloring, details, and stuff like backgrounds, instead of trying to campaign against a boogeyman like a horse salesman when cars appeared.
