And got to Japan through China, with a weird mix with local folk religions.

@CrizzyEyes "Christmas is a pagan holiday" is a modern myth, no pagan feasts at 25th of December were recorded until AFTER Christianity got popular and it's pagans who had to conform and appease people to stay in their faith because Christian doctrine "blessed are the poor etc." is much more attractive to common folk.

@burgeryoufoundbehindthegrill It's very Eurocentric when people try to link every holiday ever as coming from Europe. Like most Christian holidays were adopted from Middle East (i.e. Pesach/Pascha/Easter) and then spread West, not the other way around. Trying to claim Japanese pagans borrowed their traditions from Germans because... gasps... both used straw is quite a bit of a stretch that white supremacists usually make to try to claim their culture as progenitor. It's almost as if sun is everywhere and people built some practices around it (even then, no huge mass celebrations at December 25th were documented BEFORE Christmas became a thing, period). Yule was a month later. Trying to retroactively relate it to a popular celebration like Xmas was an attempt to make it relevant, not the other way around, as evidenced by pagans moving some celebrations, like Sol Invuctus day, to 25th, was an attempt to cash-in onto already popular fest. In case someone missed it, Christianity was getting extremely popular despite Roman persecutions... Constantine just gave up. Anyway any attempt to claim ACKTHUALLY THIS ASIAN PEOPLE HOLIDAY IS RIPPED FROM REAL ARYANS should be dismissed as outright racism.

Wait isn't Christmas a state-wide day off anyway? Oh, only in the West.

I was counting my reps at 11 years old despite never been to Japan simply because we did it in karate and I got that into habit.

@jkxss the point is that people who complain about something without trying to change it are hypocrites. Especially true for russian migrants who move to Asia or America without assimilating then complain about locals and... other migrants.

It's what ex-USSR migrants living in the West tell people who are still living in ex Soviet countries "oh it's so horrible in Canada, don't move here, they will never treat you as one of them" – "then why don't you move back?" – *crickets*. Reality is that some people just don't get assimilated, and are still watching russian TV abroad, and have idea of the Western countries from russian propaganda despite living there, no wonder everyone hates them. And and the funniest thing? These people HATE migrants... while being migrants themselves.
