  6. That's true that any liquid food can be EITHER soup or borshch, which is never called a soup, kind of like... you won't call hot dog a sandwich even though it's technically is? There's also green borshch, which is technically a sorrel soup, it's its own thing. In addition, there's an unrelated Romanian dish called bors, борш not борщ (yes, the difference is between ш & щ) which is a sour soup made with kvass, a fermented yeasty drink as a base, and has nothing to do with the beetroot dish. Romanians use that word as generic term for any sour soup.
