Historical fiction is something like Walter Scott's Rob Roy, where the main character and his family are completely fictional, but the events take place around a real uprising, which characters take part in, and they interact with Robert MacGregor himself. Same in, say, Assassin's Creed games, where you drag Cleopatra to Ceasar or storm Bastille as some made-up Assassin... media with fictional characters meeting Da Vinci, Machiavelli, or Churchill, for example, are historical fiction, but are not biopics.

They are such a cute couple, a movie that's about vengeance and mafia tells a better love story than any romantic comedy... and there's more twists than one, the killer character knew they faked it before the ending, but his heart just couldn't do it, again, much like they show in a flashback. I didn't take note of that until repeat viewing.

  17. I like Queen and Freddie but he was never anywhere near same level as Dio, especially live. He had throat issues and couldn't sing well most of the time. If you want vocalists who had range and feel around Mercury but were better live, look for Faith No More's Mike Patton or even Axl Rose. For lower register, Roy Khan is the king! But Ronnie James Dio was absolutely special and his influence in Metal could only be rivaled by Rob Halford.

Dude was chasing something he perceived as God-like (Starchild mirrors creation of Adam) and was kidnapped into alien "zoo" where they experimented on him and turned the character into an Übermensch. It's about man's search for gods and superior tech "leading" us with those black obelisks/beacons. It's a science fiction story about evolution being driven by superior civilization that sees humans as pets, just like Mass Effect or Assassin's Creed.

I just did a playthrough where I failed Tali's loyalty mission (ratted out her dad) in 2, she became disloyal with no way to turn her back (but not exiled), and I made peace with quarians and geth in ME3 anyway. Also, being Pure renegade or pure paragon scores HAS NO EFFECT in Mass Effect 3 at all since it's now a single Reputation bar that decides persuasion options. Seriously. Paragon, renegade and neutral points are tallied together. But even in ME2, where the bars are separate, as long as you not skip out major quests and don't pick the middle options too often, you're safe. And no way Legion should die in the end because Tali's not loyal – just don't send her into the vents, send Kasumi or Legion instead. Source: I always play mixed alignment chars, never paragon or renegade only.

  26. 6:20 the problem with these weird fitness devices is the awkwardness, there's nothing that stops you from doing that exercise without any outside help (literally do the same movements to strengthen your neck and face muscles) – except for laziness. In fact, normal crunches do wonders for face muscles as well as your abs – way more effective than strapping some sci-fi'esque face torture device on yourself. But also, just lying on your back and pressing your chin down and back alone will work. In fact, for older people or ones with limited mobility, the lighter versions of exercises like half-crunches or pushups from the knees will help both with health and comfort – but TV ads target demographic is literally people watching the TV in their chairs or sofas, so you get these instead...

Watch Wasabi too. 7. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Other Charlie Kaufman films. 8. Lucky Number Slevin - contender for best story of all time 9. Hero (with Jet Li), or House of Flying Daggers from same team. 10. The Mummy (1999) version, if enjoyed, watch Mummy Returns AND The Scorpion King with the Rock. It's the best "adventure" movie quasi-trilogy (sequel and a prequel), which never gets boring. Honorable mentions: Way of the Dragon, Lord of the Rings esp. Two Towers, Blade Runner, Good Will Hunting, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, 007: Thunderball (one with the jetpack), The Warlords (Chinese Hong Kong movie). I'd add first Matrix but cannot recommend it as a movie, only for influence. Oh and Terminator, both two movies in the series.)

Dick's the Golden Man, where main character sees time differently with all possibilities and he picks the option that's best for him... in the film, the major crossroads for Jared Leto is his parents separating, as the amount of possibilities grew in geometric proportions. In the end, he picks the choices which lead to the point where time reverses.

Instead they made Rey "special" and buried Finn and Poe, while they were the best-developed characters earlier. Not to mentions the treatment of Rose Tico. This is what happens when executives bend over to toxic fandom - the fans wouldn't be happy anyway but now the critics were mad too... OTOH ep. 9 is just like Force Awakens - not bad, not good, just a Star Wars movie with old cast cameos, it just had less novelty now.

  33. Charlie Kaufman is my favourite screenwriter! It's confusing because you watch it out of order. It starts after they wiped their memories, you can see by Clem's hair colour and Joel having everything associated with her, including the song Clementine wiped from his memory. Later, the therapy starts wearing off and they find out, through flashbacks, that their "new" relationship isn't new, and that they dated, it hurt, and they tried to forget... any way possible. Which failed. You can see another story, with Mary and Dr. Howard, repeating itself. The conclusion in the movie is that erasing memory doesn't work since people remain the same and still act in the same way.

And yes, we can judge accuracy of period fiction works, which date all way from Shakespeare and Walter Scott to videogames like Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty, where you get your fictional characters witness and sometimes take part in real historical events.

  45. People should have played Silent Hill 2, Scorsese ripped off that story, but without the atmosphere, scares, or any nuance of guilt-tripped delusions James had... That's what Scorcese does, finds REALLY good ideas, and bastardizes them for Hollywood. Seen the Departed? It's a remake of Hong Kong's Infernal Affairs with Andy Lau and Tony Leung, a much better movie that paved the way for a trilogy. Where characters are flashed out with some depth to their motivations rather than wasting half of the film on old Jack Nicholson being sleazy with women.

Actual psychological thrillers are movies about psychology like Marnie, Gone Girl, Fatal Attraction, or Basic Instinct, while films marketed as "thrillers" like Silence of the Lambs, Jacob's Ladder and Se7en are horror flicks that go with "psychological thriller" marketing for Oscar bait. Same way horror slasher films like Alien, Predator and Sunshine get listed as "science fiction," to avoid the stigma about horror movies being "cheap." Oh and I love all movies I listed, just clarifying.

Some other underrated favs, I like some closing tracks: Bring Down the Rain, This Is Your Life, Last in Line has amazing closers for both sides, Egypt (The Chains Are On) and One Night in the City, apart from that, Shivers from Master of the Moon and title track from Killing the Dragon... and the whole Magica album... and from The Dio Years compilation: Ear in the Wall, one of three bonus tracks. His return to Sabbath's Dehumanizer is extremely good, After All (The Dead) and Computer God are unsung classics.

But the fact you can save them all (except Thane and Mordin) makes choices past ME1 much less difficult, easy to play goodie two shoes... Now, to save Mordin, you HAVE to both doom Krogan, kill Wrex, sabotage genophage AND Eve (destroy Maelon's data). That's the only real "tough" choice in third game.

It all makes sense... but it follows "show not tell" so much you get exposition though vague associations like sexual innuendos in Dr. Strangelove or Nietzschean imagery in 2001. Lynch was always more about surreal. Compare WTF are people in Blue Velvet with pretty clear abusive, frustrated alcoholic's rampage in Shining, which Steven King thought isn't anvil-like enough to hammer the meaning. Thank Starchild Shining is poetic instead of being an anti-substance abuse PSA.

I made Ashley shoot Wrex, then left her with the bomb, killed Maelon, destroyed his data, sacrificing Eve as the result, sabotaged the genophage cure, making the krogan race die out as the result, all so I can save Mordin Solus, who doesn't even appear in the game anyway, (just sends you a text message), and will die of old age as salarians rarely live past 40 (and he's 50) Tali voice: "worth it". Speaking of that, try doing other unusual stuff like telling on Tali's father to the tribunal despite her objections – this will give a lot of her character's background info that most players skip (as this removes her loyalty). just don't send her into vents after that
