Dude was chasing something he perceived as God-like (Starchild mirrors creation of Adam) and was kidnapped into alien "zoo" where they experimented on him and turned the character into an Übermensch. It's about man's search for gods and superior tech "leading" us with those black obelisks/beacons. It's a science fiction story about evolution being driven by superior civilization that sees humans as pets, just like Mass Effect or Assassin's Creed.

Mr. Nobody is extremely simple, the premise is taken from Phillip K. Dick's the Golden Man, where main character sees time differently with all possibilities and he picks the option that's best for him... in the film, the major crossroads for Jared Leto is his parents separating, as the amount of possibilities grew in geometric proportions. In the end, he picks the choices which lead to the point where time reverses.

Charlie Kaufman is my favourite screenwriter! It's confusing because you watch it out of order. It starts after they wiped their memories, you can see by Clem's hair colour and Joel having everything associated with her, including the song Clementine wiped from his memory. Later, the therapy starts wearing off and they find out, through flashbacks, that their "new" relationship isn't new, and that they dated, it hurt, and they tried to forget... any way possible. Which failed. You can see another story, with Mary and Dr. Howard, repeating itself. The conclusion in the movie is that erasing memory doesn't work since people remain the same and still act in the same way.

A satirical parody on fascism taken at face value... I don't think it's possible to misunderstand anything as much as people who take Starship Troopers seriously. Amazing movie. Very misguided fanbase.

Ever considered that the entire point is that whether he killed all those people or it's all in his head, doesn't matter? Like, it literally doesn't change a thing. And that's the punchline.

What's not to understand? It's a slasher film that prints its central message to you on hundreds of pages... "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy"... I.e. frustration and overworking trigger an abusive alcoholic into a murderous rampage.

Except that it didn't adapt the book and was written concurrently, lmao))) people hating on Shining because some critic attacked popular movies to look more unusual and everybody repeating him. You really won't have half of modern cinema without the Shining.

The Duke nah, it's pretty clear. Kubrick's films have precise, specific meaning, nothing is actually vague, films just seem to be like that because of the art style. It all makes sense... but it follows "show not tell" so much you get exposition though vague associations like sexual innuendos in Dr. Strangelove or Nietzschean imagery in 2001. Lynch was always more about surreal. Compare WTF are people in Blue Velvet with pretty clear abusive, frustrated alcoholic's rampage in Shining, which Steven King thought isn't anvil-like enough to hammer the meaning. Thank Starchild Shining is poetic instead of being an anti-substance abuse PSA.
