@Kitten_Destroyer14we literally don't know who was Cleopatra the 7th mother. At all. Could have been someone from another country, could have been father's sister, there's no record. But they did marry siblings but the heirs were often NOT from those marriages.

@ZarpSterr we actually have no idea who Cleopatra the 7th mother was. At all. So while there was inbreeding tons of heirs were not from official sister wife but from a foreign consort.

@LegoSnoopDogg people knew inbreeding was dangerous since prehistoric times, that's why sibling marriage was either completely taboo (Medieval times), or generally limited to rulers (antiquity); many nations had a tradition to move to another village to find a wife and vice versa because people tried to avoid inbreeding.

@kingofjokers1 Egyptians knew it and Pharaohs often took wives from other families and even foreigners, it's Great Royal Wife that was the sister's title usually. They were power crazy and unfortunately, out of ALL things in Egypt, Europe took the concept of god-ruler and absolutism from Egypt (instead of concepts like basic women's rights or primitive antibiotics).

@iimuffinsaur actually it's spread of Christianity that banned incest. So the other way around.

It's the same with "Catherine" from Anhalst-Zerbst dynasty, empress of ru, she looks grotesque in her FLATTERING portraits and she was known for having a menagerie of young male lovers it's just YUCK 🤮
