Two wrongs don't make a right and historical city centers being butchered to make something silly is still bad. in NY, London, Paris or Bucharest.

@Brickooine I vote for Campucea as THE worst. Ceausescu was a narcissist who abused people for his own vanity, and is rightfully considered one of the worst. The building projects remind me of Qin Shi Huang-Di actually, so it's closer to ancient feudal warlords who built walls on builders bones... ...while Pol Pot ordered to launch babies into trees to save on bullets, he wiped out half of Cambodian population as part of making an agrarian society where educated people didn't exist. They killed people for things like having glasses (hypocritically), teachers were erased as class enemy, only ones close to that evil were Hitler and Stalin. Ceausescu definitely top 5 and very likely a medalist in atrocity Olympics.

@DeadEndFrog for all the pain it caused, it's better the building not be an eyesore, we had enough of dictators erecting phallic monstrosities between neoclassical and baroque historical centers.

Yeah that's a problem with USA cosplaying as communist dictatorship sometimes... Horseshoes!

@torfley oh but it's a good point: this is something that someone would make in Minecraft or SimCity, he just decided to play it IRL, kinda like putin has too much tremor to play Red Alert now so he decided to just CONSCRIPT REPORTING most of his population to be cubed.

@RobinTheBot oh, this... most of these mega-building projects are done in poor countries at expense of people, see the absolutely insane things Arab Sheikhs are doing with basically slave labor of undocumented migrant workers, I can never look at Burj Khalifa and think "oh this is impressive" when I know how it's a vanity bull project. I mean, if Germany, or Sweden, or Japan wanted, they could have easily did something bigger they just have other more important expenses. And those countries are rich and relatively nice to live in.

While we found the builders were LIKELY cared for (there's evidence of aid for injured, and builders left autographs like "this stone was put by Aswan gang" instead of HELP ME), the fact that they didn't CONTINUE building them for thousands of years shows it wasn't popular. Only third to sixth dynasties made pyramids in Egypt... there were 33. Sudanese actually build a lot of smaller ones as 25th Kushite dynasty was impressed by Egyptian... already ruins at that point. So Sudanese pyramids are with Luxor in Vegas, Louvre and Bass Pro Shop as guys who already forgot how they were built and just made their own ones in other places.
