For those that need these grate so they don't freeze try a couple inch piece of foam with cardboard taped on top and bottom. With 50 cent piece sized holes all through it. Should help with the discomfort yet still provide heat. Please don't ever cover yourself so your breathing in that warm air. It is exhaust fumes and such from the subways and sewers.
