  2. I thought this would be about winter tyres on bikes, but I was so wrong! I'm amazed at how well Oulu's snow clearing practices work out for the locals. Looking at hose glistening icy lanes, I'd get very apprehensive about cycling, but I guess practice makes perfect? My main issue with cycling in snow here in the Netherlands, after seeing this, is that you never know upfront which paths will be cleared/salted and thus a bike commute will get rather stressful, also because it rarely stays snowy enough for long enough to really get to know the lay of the land.

  3. I live nearby and love this station so much! I'd forgotten just how bad it was before (so thanks for including the old footage) but remember being completely blown away when I cycled there to take my first train post-lockdown in 2020

  4. I can just picture trams in the centre of Groningen. Gedempte Zuiderdiep, a wide street running from East to West mear the southern end of the centre, would be perfect for them, and Oosterstraat (connecting Zuiderdiep with the Grote Markt) looks extra charming in old footage from when it still had a tram...

  6. It's so funny to hear you pronounce bybanen with an English 'by' 😆. Even though I do feel that y is the hardest Norwegian vowel - like Dutch UU but with unrounded yet not completely spread lips 🥺
