My mom just got a house by paying the back taxes on it. It's obviously more complicated than that, she had to hire an attorney to make sure that the family members didn't want the house. But it had sat for 2 years and they were letting it go to waste. She has been living in the house over a year now fixing it up, making the yard beautiful again, making it a home.
