  1. Linus caught a lot of flack for this and several other such exchanges. But the people who have issue with it are admitting they are poor developers and don't have a legitimate opinion to voice. People with issue here don't understand what it's like dealing with developers at this tier. It's herding cats with egos the size of mountains. After you've exhausted human dialogue frequently the only way to reel them back in is to ding their ego and forcefully push their feet back upon the ground. The number of Prima Donnas at this tier is extremely high. That's not to say these minds are entirely out of step with such stature. But, it can be self defeating for themselves and the needs of the project at hand. Periodically, in many cases, these people require correction by ego slap. Find a developer who took issue with Linus' approach and you've identified a hack of a developer.
