  1. Having written this many times (C++ too), I agree. It's tedious and not fun. Usually worth the effort to create tooling to convert something from XML or yaml into code. Which is, of course, why tooling like ProtocolBuffers is so very popular.

  2.  @Luxalpa  Java is okay. But the standard libs are all by committee which makes everything tedious and needlessly verbose for many simple tasks. It gets worse for complex coding. C# is a reasonable alternative. And IMOHO, a more modern option.

  3.  @TheMachina42  Worth pointing out, the Windows kernel reliability did improve when they went to C++. Maybe not the cause but worth mentioning.
