@yoyonn1 The west for a long time (and still is) like Greece: politically disunited but politically very similar. At least in comparison to the other civilizations.

well the issue is that basically all of Europe just wants to lay down and cry especially the most militaristic factions (Russia and Germany)

I think they may be seen differently much like the caliphates of old when they rose to power

@nicksam5518 I'd say more the parents or possibly even little brother.

@paulheinrichdietrich9518 I'm not saying that it was any worse than another system of the time (for example the actual caste system of India was honestly kind of worse), but the point is that the strict class and lack of social mobility really did hamper much of that progress with no strong merchant class.

You're right that no civilization has done anything on that scale, but please remember that most empires brutally opress everyone just basically for fun until the brutality catches up to them and face revolt. In fact, that's how the Spanish conquered the Americas. Btw it's also disingenuous to not acknowledge that the most important part of the transatlantic slave trade was started by the Africans selling their captured enemies to the Europeans in the first place. Okay so what's wrong with condemning Arab countries for what they do wrong? Is it also wrong to disagree on certain points? Also why does a government need to apologize for the whole affair when it got rid of the institution? Btw America is completely exempt from your second edit because they both changed their constitution and I don't think there's any apology better than spilling the blood of your own for the freedom of another.

@paulheinrichdietrich9518 Founded cities and universities yes, but also had a rigid caste system and enough economic barriers built into this social system as to stop real growth.

@TrueMakaveli50 I mean... like it or not some groups have done certain things which have resulted in good. Such as the Muslims having large leaps in science just before the Mongol hordes and then bringing that to the Europeans after the crusades. Btw the crusades even though they failed in their objectives brought all of the knowledge back to Europe and giving a spark to the enlightenment.

If you watched he kind of explained it and more accurately he kind of differentiated between classical civilizations and the modern west. It's much like his decision on Latin America not being the west even though it is. However there are enough differences and it's more the modern context. Latin America and the West are the children of the classical civilizations.

@paulheinrichdietrich9518 LA is part of the US and the West. Miami is basically just north Cuba. But the point is that they're fairly distinct in internal affairs. Basically all of the west has been empires compared to the tumultuous cluster fuck that is the Americas which got pretty screwed by the Spanish.

@paulheinrichdietrich9518 Uh... I'd push back on that somewhat. The wealth of the colonies largely went back to Spain without much left for the colonies themselves and thus didn't prosper too much. They didn't get much wealth out of their colonial status and when Spain was finally kicked out they didn't really have much left. I'd encourage you to watch his "How does Latin America work" video to elaborate more as he Explains much better than myself.
