Something that may not have been really gone over because of the Mexican focus is that the skilled Mexican manufacturing is what really helps (and where those better jobs are). Not only is it useful for Mexico, but it basically substitues a key step in American manufacturing. Automation has gotten good enough to bring back the bottom step in manufacturing back to the states. It also is there for the high-end stuff. But there's a middle potion which is too expensive to do in the US, and Mexico fits well into that. Goods actually travel to and from the border that way a lot with less finished goods being sent out, only to be sent back for the finishing stuff. Repeat a few times. So at the end what you have is a symbiotic relationship where you have a structure that's incredibly complimentary for manufacturing in a way that's really not comparable elsewhere except for maybe Germany and Poland (except with 3x to 4x the population).
