Although an interesting idea, you also still have maintenence of the aircraft of systems to keep it flying. And old systems run up maintenence costs fast. So it's better used, as it's likely intended, to prototype for UAV fighters to go alongside the new systems such as with project wingman in Australia.

I think drones and especially loitering munitions are the future of CAS as not only can some varients be deployed at the squad level, but any other version can be deployed for usually less risk, maintenance, cost, and infrastructure. Thus, you would see them virtually replace the thunderbolt in its intended role.

@Nikolia bravachkia Fundamentally, as I understand it, you only really need to have the thing in certain angles to mimic the crossection of certain aircraft. Most aircraft in the US arsenal have radar cross sections far smaller than their actual size anyway. So you're basically looking at a bit of a blob with a certain size and shape. To Mimick that shape just use angles that give the same return and maybe some interesting paint. Also it does seem to be said in the video that there are some EM spectrum actions taking place.

@Hebdomad7 You're right, but it's currently limited to vehicle systems.

I think the most ironic thing about this, is that these fighters will likely decrease total cost in the long run given how it's primarily meant to be a control center for drone wingmen. This allows a large suite of aircraft that'd normally be unable to achieve.
