@annahusnain6209 If you haven't noticed it's the Indo-European language family. They all share a decent amount in common. African languages come from more diverse families.

@scottlarsen4144 It's the UK. Not exactly one of the current best militaries. They have a decent one with some excellent units, but definitely not exactly a top contender.

And then you combined this with a technological focused, fairly cohesive trickling of societies, with functional institutions, and a founding myth of making anything out of nothing in a highly competitive internal system... you kind of took everything the world had to offer and gave it the best starting conditions ever.

@snowmanleblanc6053 Name of the island itself is new Guinea (at least in the English language) while the country is Papua New Guinea. I also recognize the small country of west Papua on the island.

@RockBrentwood Eh... technically the Americas have different tectonic plates and also happen to be split down the middle in a narrow canal so... north and south are a little more appropriate.

Tracy Sharp There will not. A United Africa would not last very long simply from all of the ethnic tensions. It'd be a fragile alliance who's seams would be as tight as a loose screw. Most countries start out as a collection of a single ethnic group and then (in western countries) slowly accept outsiders or start as a buildup of immigrants for a long time. However, in Africa most of the countries are very much as unstable to do its corruption as it is its ethnic conflict. Now multiply that by 4x the population and a government very far away from you. Congratulations on your domed escapade.

It's actually quite comical how often they fail tbh. Only one success story I've ever heard about a policy increasing fertility rate. That story is of Georgia 🇬🇪 who managed to increase it via the patriarch of their orthodox church saying he would personally baptize all children. Only time ever that a country's national policy managed to increase fertility rate.

I'll be honest I've never bought the lack of government support for low birth rates given the US matches or exceeds several countries with much higher support and every time a country tries to boost birth rate with support, it has failed. So...I don't buy it.

@dvf1736 Yeah honestly Canada is America Lite. Most people outside of us can't really tell the difference anyway. Soo... let's just annex Canada. Then we'll eventually expand south (after buying Greenland) and we'll become the USNA The United States of North America. One continent, one flag. First the continent, then... the WORLD!

@scottlarsen4144 Well the truth is... you are. And so is Mexico. Honestly so is the entire western hemisphere. America has made it a policy to basically have complete military control over the region. It doesn't like foreign powers in the region and so it makes sure they don't get to interfere there.

I don't have any problem with this, but it does mean that you've cited Chinese population figures inconsistent with this data because China has a lot less people and has been in decline since the early 2000s by the fertility metrics you used

As a dark addendum to this, I'd like to add that historically what you do with a large and unemployed young male population with little prospect for advancement, is send them to war which adds another internal factor toward conflict. Now, since these two countries are NOT among the great powers of the world, these two countries may be able to have peace settlements outside of their own countries and thus prevent a total war. However, since these are existential issues for both powers involved, there is a very real chance for this to become a total war. And just like the world wars, the countries involved have a LOT of young men to throw at each other. Egypt is more industrialized, but Ethiopia has more of a martial tradition and genuine geographic advantage (as well as an extra 10 million people). This war will be huge, and the biggest thing which will decide if this war is 1 to 2 million vs 10 to 12 million under arms is if the two countries can create mobilization systems which enable them to use their vast reserves of manpower. This WILL be the largest war of the 21st century, assuming China and Pakistan don't go to war against India.
