Two comments: I do find interesting that this is simply a criticism of the writing and not even the goal of the writing and a perfect example of letting your goal get in the way and actually ruin your attempt at it because you were blinded by it. I also find it interesting that, had these rules not been in place, we would have well formed and actually strong female characters. Characters who have depth and genuinely stand along their male counterparts. But that takes work. And maybe having a temporary submission to the male heroes who came before. And that hasn't been allowed for 10 years.
