  1. Seeing what goes into this I'm a lot more hopeful about this rifle than I am the Spear even though I know it probably won't win. This rifle seems like a genuine game changer with the ability to just switch to a rather controllable automatic fire

  2.  @damienharbin242  I'm going to be honest, the Spear is a weapon for the Russians in that it's easy to repair, having specific fallback points, and nothing really big changing. It can take probably more punishment even in addition to the extra punishment it's taking from its own ammo. This is in comparison to the bullpup (I can't remember its name lol) which is meant to have a new system which increases soldier abilities in combat. MG 6.8 is better than no MG though and that was a mistake on their part.

  8. First off: caseless worked and was going to be adopted, but got thwarted by German reunification. Second off: we've had an incredible increase in availability, cost effectiveness, and ability of polymer materials. Thus, as an effective material, it isn't an issue. In fact I believe you can purchase straight from the true velocity website.

Sure it has a ridiculous amount of powder, a few things to understand: With a barrel as short as 8.5" you get the same energy from 7.62x51 as 7.62x39, but win tons of drawbacks like increase concussion, increased muzzle flash, and a whole lot more recoil (which only increases with increased powder). It's also important to understand that for the ranges with which an SBR is applicable, the 5.56 can still pierce modern body armor. The 6.8 cartridge is intended to pierce it at range where 5.56 is limited. Also you can carry more 5.56 in a magazine of the same size as you can for full power. Thus, the only thing you have from a raptor, is a very loud toy. Only maybe as effective, with more drawbacks, and only possible benefit being streamlining ammo, but you want a weapon which is designed for your CQB Assault squads regardless which 5.56 is half designed for as an intermediate cartridge.

  10.  E  Don't use an 8.5 inch weapon lol. It's needlessly small and on top of that you have all of the mentioned drawbacks. You're better off using something like .300blk than trying to use a full power cartridge.

  11.  E  Raptor is 8.5 inches. Also worth noting that speed, breaks armor and the pure energy required is not as good a metric of breaking body armor.

  12.  E  It's worth noting that the .277 fury is designed to cause enough back deformation as to take them out through the army at that range and not necessarily break it. But 5 inches is a huge detriment especially as it shrinks as a percentage of barrel. So you've a point, but still seems like a toy when you lose so much of the velocity you have. And it's my entire point. I wonder what range that test was conducted at as well.
