I'm going to be honest here, the single most important thing here that needs to happen is stable government. Governmental stability is probably the number 1 factor in a successful economy as that investment doesn't just get stolen by an elite. This ties into social cohesion where you trust your own neighbor to not steal your stuff. The second most important is to have a liberal enough system to have free markets and robust trade so that the economy can adapt. Everything else comes second and will be a net benefit.

@mofewilkie5707 You'd think that but no. Because people don't care what desirable qualities they vote for who they like, makes them feel good, and tells them good things. Education doesn't change this at all. Even the college educated will vote this way as many of their voting patterns are shaped more by their beliefs in whatever they think is a moral good than anything that's proven to be Good for a country. And people heavily partake in confirmation bias regardless. Before you can even try to get there you have to get to a point where you don't think your neighbor or local official is going to steal from you if you try to do anything such as start a business or try to trade with someone. You have to have that level of trust and get along well enough with your neighbors before you can engage in anything else. The biggest thing you can do to Enlighten the electorate is integrate the young so they early on befriend those in other ethnic groups and so don't try to just go in favor of their own ethnic group.

@orboakin8074 May I recommend you the whatifalthist channel? If you can agree with that you'll likely enjoy his content. Realistically you just need to not completely kill your markets and have robust competition with your companies, and your leaders to not constantly try to steal from the Population. Good leaders are optional so long as they're not so bad as to send you into a death spiral of complete collapse.

@Dutch_Uncle That's why I put governmental stability as number 1 as a stable government is indicative of enough social cohesion as to not do that. Since of course... trade is still seen as a form of theft it currently lacks enough to not trust your neighbor to not steal your stuff. In lacking that it can't even get to the second most important one.

Biggest thing is that the first world War is the straw that broke the camel's back for Russia and Austria. Without it, both countries likely wouldn't have had so many issues. They needed about 10 more years to solve the issues before it started.

@George Murdock Gotta correct you on that: in an ideal socialist world no-one would have to work if they didn't want to. Companies are a benefit to society? Well that's simply based on opinion, and you also have to separate the idea of them in aggregate vs the practices of any one company.

@Stefan Metzeler I'd like to remind you that for many African states it's not just political "tribe" but literal tribe as the tribal social system hasn't collapsed in those areas. It's also worth noting that government is just like anything else a result of the incentive structures, but it's incredibly difficult to create one with an incentive structure which continually rewards good behavior.

@Stefan Metzeler Unfortunately, I'm at least half of your age. And there's definitely issues regarding coordination and how small you want the systems. Also, I'd hesitate to try to put a "One Size Fits All" solution on anything. First off, Nigeria isn't a European country, nor are they of that background. They're based around the Sahel, so we'd have to look into the history of the Sahel states before colonization to try to get an idea of what might work. The other one is actually treating the post-colonial British states, almost anglophone, in some regard as they have inherited some of those cultural hallmarks. But before any of that, of course, you need to actually get some sort of social cohesion on the ground.

@ioiio ihb Befriend people of other tribes and invite them into your houses. Encourage the others in your tribe to do so as well. Unfortunately, you're unlikely to see the results truly bear fruit within your own generation. The other thing is to go ahead and support those people of your community heavily so they don't go ahead and do crimes. Criminals tend to congregate together and as well come out of being outcasts of their own groups. Prevent this, and you'll probably start getting down a decent bit of crime. None of these are cure-all solutions as you will have to address things as they come, and they also sound a little strange as you're attempting to build a nation from what's effectively a forced tribal Confederacy from scratch. But, doing these things will create the grounds to create the social trust necessary to create those effective social and political institutions. They will take time, and they will probably fail a few times (especially the first time), but eventually, it's a path that if everyone embarked on tomorrow, would create the institutions necessary to actually create stable, and eventually wealthy, societies. Btw, I know these sound very strange, that's because they kind of are. You're effectively asking people to go against every natural tendency they have. This is also most often done as a response to a war in the form of a multi-generational conflict against an outsider to create a functioning national identity and state, as well as usually a few hundred years of existence under the same government. To say that it's easy would be the understatement of the year.

@Atwell atwell Half right. Resource wealth is not wealth. The wealthiest societies are those which are usually rather resource poor ironically as they're forced to create institutions to effectively use the resources they do have. Wealth is more about effective institutions than resources. However, your conclusion of what must be done is very correct as it's quite literally the solution because if you can have enough trust, those institutions will more likely work.

@victory7999 However this was in comparison to the devolution to local autonomy the Austrians were practicing. It's not like the Austrians didn't do the same thing, but the irony here is that Hungary did the same integration as Austria when Hungary was a product of the devolution.

9:00 - 11:00 I'm sorry WHAT are you talking about? European system is colonization? Did you miss the portion where Germany industrialized without colonies and the French colonies were small and non-producing until they'd already industrialized? The only ones doing the "European system" were the Brits. And then you call the US model going to war with people before trading with them? This misses how the US traded primarily with EUROPE and That most of its wars to get markets were also AFTER it had already industrialized. After being industrialized means that both were already rich from industrialization. Wow is that just really bad. I mean if you're trying to say it's the Indian perspective on it I can understand that, but come on that should be so much more obvious.
