  1. @nlocnil3602  You're right, but the reason is that first off, they're not allowed to compete, and secondly, they're nationally controlled industries. The government allows them that payment because it can and it subsidizes their massive R&D budgets. Which, even with that 10x increase, allows F-35 to cost near 80 million per aircraft. Which is similar to the Saab Grippen of Sweden, which is a generation earlier and is dwarfed in capability.

  4. Yeah the issue is that the pre-Soviet borders were defensible and especially the eastern bloc as they served as buffer states and getting into a more narrow part of the plain. However the modern Russian borders are completely indefensible and leave it incredibly vunerable.

  7. Simple answer: go west and get a handle, or continue to be invaded. Which is why the Russian empire (and later Soviet Union) had the borders it did. With the secession of the other states, it's basically in a place to get invaded again. Very bad.

  8. He wants a return to pre-Soviet borders and more than anything a buffer against the west so that they stop getting invaded and suffering millions of casualties in huge wars. He also wants control of central Asia again to contain China and keep from getting invaded in there as well. But for now the west is the bigger threat to them.
