@kabobawsome It's less a disregard for human life and more just not knowing modern war. Franco-Prussian War had happened only about 40 years prior. Armies were still standing in lines and requiring massed fire. Tanks hadn't been invented yet. The biggest firepower of a soldier had no way to match any sort of emplacement. The war was old ideas and new equipment. And we all know how that goes down.

Hungary is probably just apologetic for being with Austria during the time of partition

How to know you've a badass dad: the first father-son bonding experience is murdering a bunch of nobles for the sake of honor.

So it seems that the real inheritors of the spirit of Rome... was England. Wow.

"Hedone" presumably the root of the word "Hedonic" being joy in Greece is something that's honestly completely in Greek fashion. i assume it's much like the word for abduction. Though i think the Greeks also did that one themselves this time.

Well tbh the great war everyone was itching for some power grabs and the German empire was definitely part of that. Honestly great war was going to happen over SOMETHING but no-one knew what. And then they experienced true modern war. It was also in no way peaceful as Germany and Italy fought wars of unification about 50 years prior. Kaiser Wilhelm oversaw the Franco-Prussian War 40 years prior. They had the ideas of old but had no idea what tools they were working with.

24:40 Yeah that sounds like it applies to basically any republic or even any democracy tbh. That system of government is super fragile. Wonder if any other Republics can get to that 600 year mark. USA is a little less than halfway there.

Seems like the biggest issue Poland faces is the unfortunate situation of being between the Russian and German people

Julius is basically a big ol' question of "Did the ends justify the means?"

@tompatterson1548 it WAS Rome

Nah they WANTED war. Another European conflict was going to come. I don't know what they were referring to with peaceful considering Germany and Italy were fighting unification wars and France had just fought the German Empire only 40 years prior in the Franco-Prussian War. The goal was war. Those ideas weren't going to go away until people properly saw what their new weapons could do.

Where's empire?

TFW you ask the question "Who in Europe fucks around?" and realize the answer is no-one but Italy because everyone else who fucked around no longer exist

that is the theme of that book
