  1. Russia being saved by winter here also has no merit given that for all intents and purposes...it applies to both sides. For historical analysis about Russian winter, Ukraine is just as Russian. Not to mention they're in the south around the black sea where it's comparatively warmer anyway. So... not really much of a consideration here. In real terms it's like saying winter is on the side of the Russians while they fight the Swedes or Finns.
