Still better than having to pull out a maxim gun. Also tbh we still use the M2 so can't complain too much. It's got a suppressor and modern optic. For all intents and purposes, you're equal. Also remember that the MG42 is still in service as the MG3. Biggest thing that separates older weapons from modern ones is attachments and manufacturing (which helps in accuracy in rifles but machine guns are not exactly a system for accurate fire). As long as you have things like a modern optic and you're not using say a bolt action to bust down doors you're about equal.

Suppressors not so much. And there's been a lot of improvements to scopes since then and especially in the mid-range with things like prism scopes.

probably as well as any other machine gun lol

Probably need this translated by Google for you but I basically said the same thing in English

@db_prod No no actually you're here first and just kind of found you afterward. I'm really just saying that I ended up saying the same thing in a different language without connotation. Just that it happened which is cool.

Well they're mounting optics and suppressors to them which along with manufacturing is really what separates WW2 weapons from modern ones. Lack of detachable magazines and picatinny rails as standard features too. However, most machine guns don't benefit from the better machining as realistically it just makes more accurate rifles (open bolt machine can only be so accurate), machine guns rarely have any of those additional mounts, and we're still using WW2 and Pre-WW2 machine guns (M2 Browning, MG42 in the MG3, etc). So honestly if you put on a suppressor and an optic on a machine gun from WW2 you've basically equaled the playing field (Russians and Ukrainians are still using the 7.62x54R from the imperial Russian days as their bigger cartridge).

A "blast from the past" which fits fairly literally here

They were using PUs which were the sniper variants and they're likely not using something such as the shot out garbage rods which are usually sold as surplus (if it's not sold it's likely still of some use and a bolt action in Stock is likely one that's in fairly good condition). Likely the intent was in using them in their intended marksman rifle role (which is basically how Russian sniper doctrine works).

I think he's referring to prism scopes and importantly suppressors and scopes haven't really entered wide adoption until relatively recently instead being mostly niche purposes such as for your snipers and marksmen.
