Well first off we likely wouldn't have the new world as it is, but overall yeah the eastern romans were incredibly stable at least as an empire with the only thing which finally broke Them being betrayal, bad luck, and the umpteenth Turkish invasion. Seriously had the crusade which killed the empire just not happened they probably would've come back and reformed with a bulwark against The Turks and they instead inhabiting the rest of what became the ottoman empire.
