@Zakdayak It is not my thinking it is Daniel Kahneman who did research at Princeton on this and it is in Kahneman's book "Thinking, fast and slow" and I recommend it as an interesting read.

@jag10 I didn't make the evidence for the ceiling in happiness up - Daniel Kahneman (a psychologist) has done work on this and it is based on US surveys and research. After $75 000 there is no increase in happiness caused by increase in having more income. The evidence suggests that helping the poor helps the well-being in society more than making the rich richer.

The evidence suggests that as people earn more money, their day-to-day happiness rises. Until you hit $75,000. After that, it is just more stuff, with no gain in happiness. So getting people to that sort of income is imperative - and it can be done by taxing the rich.

You make some interesting assumptions about "taxing the hell out of the rich", "they will move there (sic) money to another country" and "you are part of the problem in our country!!" - who said anyone will tax the hell out of the rich, who said they can and will move their money abroad and which country are you referring to. I live in Germany and I suspect you do not.

The headline figure for Corporate Tax is bizarrely high and has hardly been altered even when the Republicans have controlled the House and Senate. Then you look at the fact that as a percentage of GDP the Corporate Tax has been dropping - now that is interesting and implies that the Legislature has been altering the effective tax rate by granting lots of loopholes so the headline rate is very misleading indeed.

I am not sure where you get your figures for Corporate taxation levels - historically they seem to be at an all time low and in comparison within the OECD they are the low if not the lowest.
