  1. Many years ago I read "Going Dutch" by Lisa Jardine about what England plundered from the Dutch. King William III the late 17th century king was Dutch and he with his wife Mary II invaded in what would be called "The Glorious Revolution" in 1689. This definitely established / consolidated the limited state in British life. Voltaire who visited fifty years later held up the British state as an example of freedom and liberty.

  2.  @klontjespap  The Orangemen and the name William are strongly associated with the protestant ascendancy in Northern Ireland. The Jacobites who William of Orange defeated in Ireland celebrated the "gentleman in the velvet coat" when William died after a riding accident where the horse stumbled on a mole-hill.
