  1. I wonder if the rush to build metros in the 1970s was generated by the oil crisis in 1973 when oil prices quadrupled overnight I suspect that released some of the funding for new metro plans even if they were made in the earlier decades.

  2. BTW we have a mixed system in the town (in Germany) where I live it is a light-rail / tram system in the outreaches and goes underground in the city centre and we have a population of 350 000 approx.
