Have you heard of "Paris syndrome" パリ症候群, Pari shōkōgun where Japanese people who turn up in Paris are shocked that it is dirtier and more chaotic than Japanese cities and also their idealisation of Paris. I suspect the young man who was a first year High Schooler who mentioned Paris might be shocked by it in reality.
