I read Dune about 45 years ago I bought it in a bookshop on the way home from school I found my first attempt to read it hard and gave up then a year later I tried again and finished it and enjoyed it It was one of the first "tough" world-building reads I tried and I wasn't prepared for the "alien-ness" of the worlds built. That was definitely the biggest stumbling block Also I wanted to understand everything in the novel the way you can with say an Asimov novel (which is largely what I had been reading up until then) It is more grown-up and coming back just a year later helped me at least.
