I bought a new computer in 2000 and it came with Windows Me It was such a horrible experience and led to several crashes that I moved permanently to Linux and haven't looked back since then. My partner's computer ran Windows XP and we talked about what happens when it came to the end of its support life and we moved to Linux I use Arch based distros with i3wm my partner who is less technical uses a Linux Mint LTS It works and I can ssh into the other computers from termux on my phone if necessary too.
