  2. A ship designed to kill armoured cruisers that could be easily destroyed by armoured cruisers, while also being strategically too expensive to justify for that role. Why?

John Douglas Yamatos vs. KGVs (there would only be 3 KGVs at this point) should be interesting and could go either way (numbers and somewhat superior protection vs. superior firepower), but I assume the QE’s and especially the Nelsons would come out on top over the rest of the IJN force due to older Japanese capital ships being rather glass-cannony. Not an easy fight though, as the Japanese vessels are quicker and could choose terms of engagement, and if the Yamatos avoided the KGVs and descended on the Nelsons the Yamatos are going to rip them apart and maybe swing the battle, unless it’s in poor visibility (and did the Nelsons have radar FCS by 1943 anyways?)
