  7. MaNU...., I agree with you 100% but, one might ask: what is it that makes one keep its past identity rather than hide it? It's the identity of its Roman Catholic conversion: the conversion to the truths of God. Just as Spain (Hispania) and the Philippines (the name of the most Catholic Monarch of Spain) should keep its connection from the past. What is Maharlika but a reminder of the pagan and Muslim past? If Filipinos are going to use it, they might as well burn those beautiful Baroque Catholic Churches built by Spanish missionaries in the hundreds all over the country. Yes, it would be a disrespect to those thousands missionaries who lived and died in their country who formed the Filipino Catholic culture of what it is today. That's who you are and, your country has that name that goes along with your culture.

  9. Matthew..., Hinduism is pagan. They worship various gods just like the ancient Romans, Greeks, Vikings and Druids. Pagan is not derogatory. It has a dictionary meaning akin to my above definition. The Philippines had that mixture of paganism and Muslim. If you refer to Philippine history, there are Rahjas who were the big leaders of the Philippine Islamic version.
