I’m aware that the FA-50 will be obliterated at BVR against any American MRV and will not even have a chance to go on a one or two circle dog fight against them. However, against those Chinese junk fighters and their missiles whose BVR capabilities are in question, we now know those FA-50s can dominate against them in dogfights. It would also be interesting how those FA-50s Block 20 will do against the Chinese with their BVR system. We might discover the most cost-efficient squadron to roam the SCS. Despite my having said that, I would still propose to staying the course of purchasing both Jas-39s and F-16s as their are much better at longer range patrol and their use against other neighboring countries whose air forces are at par with traditional modern fighters. Their claim of the Spratly Islands overlap that of the Philippines as well. Perhaps after the third squadron of fighters, the Philippines might consider a purchase of a forth in the FA-50 Block 20.

As a side note: the Americans are going, “I’m glad those Filipinos are on our side; if they can use the FA-50 with such efficiency, imagine what they can do with F-16s.”
