  1. Submission to the Bishop’s authority only belongs to the realm of the supernatural. You can’t just legally take anyone’s property just because you’re the Bishop. The vow of obedience does not allow a Bishop access to personal property. Furthermore, you can’t just just publicly accuse people under you of carnal sin because those things are spiritually settled under the seal of confession. Yes, the Bishop is looking for “dirt” to coerce the nuns to surrender their real estate. Unfortunately, dioceses aren’t getting funds from donations based on the bad images they exude. Now, the Bishops resort to selling the diocese’s properties, but a Religious Community of nuns and monks still legally own their own property.
