  3. I suppose the reason that such a high neutrino energy is required is that something like the energy equivalent of the mass of a W particle is required in the center of mass frame of the neutrino and the electron it's colliding with.

  4. Wow, fascinating! Seems we're living in an exciting time now in terms of high-energy physics discoveries. Too bad Congress scrapped the SSC back in the 80s - I'll bet a lot of them who are still alive are kicking themselves now!

  5. I think the planet/dwarf planet debate concerning Pluto is overblown! I have no problem with reclassifying it as a dwarf planet since it is by far the smallest "planet" in the Solar System and it has a moon of larger relative size than any other planet. I think the main reason most people want it kept as a planet is because we've all been taught since we were kids that it's a planet, but as it turns out, this was a mistake. On the other hand, if people insist that it still be called is a planet, I have no problem with that either. I think the bottom line is that we first need come up with rigorous definitions of a planet and a dwarf planet before deciding how to classify Pluto.

  6. Wow, that's an amazing discovery! Although the results most likely mean our cosmological needs to be modified, we shouldn't jump to conclusions too soon. I think the Big Bang theory will hold up as well as the existence of dark matter.

  7. I'd be willing to bet just about anything that there's life on Europa, but most likely just single-celled organisms.
