  1. Wardencliffe tower was a capacitative antenna where it would transmit power via 1 wire transmission without earth return (exact description albeit using earth as the wire). Its longitudinal power transmission through earth instead of inverse square law radio we use today. It wouldn't be free although anyone could tap into it constructing a matching resonant pickup coil.
