@siglandoe3913 I think it is you that is missing the point. The landlord is not the one paying for that mortgage. The tenet indirectly is. The landlord receives equity through someone else's labor. On top of the free equity and gains in that equity, landlords also require monthly profit in terms of rent. But yes, we should totally be sympathizing with the landlords over rent controls that keep people in their homes. Maybe don't own more property than you can live on? Maybe stop believing that you should be allowed to live off someone else's labor.

@avipharmd7646 Sounds like you will have to sell that extra property you don't even live on and whoever buys it can actually live there. You made the choice to become an investor. You don't always gain, however when you factor in the actual gains, even at 3% rent increase, those gains in property value more than make up for it, and its equity you aren't even paying for since the tenets are the ones giving you enough money to cover the mortgage and more, and when we go back far enough in sales of the property you own, we will always find that the property was originally stollen from others. The sense of entitlement you wannabe feudal lords is absolutey insane.

@toycarpgmr Yeah, and something tells me that you understand that even though the costs now exceed rent (I highly doubt this) the gains you have been making in the value of the home more than make up for it, especially since the tenet is the one actually paying your mortgage and building your equity. @kimmieb2u Except your wrong. There are thousands of rent controlled units in NYC that landlords simply refuse to rent out. If this was about money, renting at at rent controlled price would be better than owning empty property not bringing in any money. The real problem is that the rich have so much money they can afford to not rent out these units in a form of fucked up protest to try and get the government to change the laws so they can profit even more than they originally would have. If you can afford to hold onto property for years keeping it vacant and not bringing in any money, you can afford maintenance here and there while renting it out. Also, we want landlords to sell their extra properties so more people can own the homes they live in. People keep crying about rental properties not being on the market while ignoring that homeownership is on the decline. A big reason is that mega corporations keep buying up most of the new units to rent out at absurd prices. Sounds like this whole private property thing isnt working out, and considering the justifications for it are rooted in literal myth and not fact, we should throw it all out and start again.

Lol, the landlord wont lose money. When losers like you say this, you don't factor in the fact the tenet is paying the mortgage building you equity, and you also get the gains off that equity that someone else is building for you. On top of the gains you receive from someone else building you equity, you also expect profit from the monthly rent, yet when your monthly profit off the rent goes slightly down, you all expect us to have sympathy for you.
