Trying to answer. Joran half pulled half walked with the dead Natalee. No possibility that she was conscious. So Jorans shoes were missing. No time for boat trips. Natalee had to leave next morning , and Joran had to fabricate some stories with his 2 friends. After the sand bank there is a strong current. And Joran was strong enough. In the middle of the night no help from other ones. As for the story. Natalee did not want , and Joran got very angry. ( Joran a very explosive nature ). Remember , the FBI also is believing this.

@matthewadels The water depth can be approx. 6 feet after going in the ocean only a few steps. So is it really implausible ? But , anyway , I do not see better explanation. In the middle of the night , alone on the beach ?? To phone someone for a boat ?? That would take hours.

@matthewadels No , he did not swim at all. We have the time tables of Joran , at what times he was on the beach and when again he was at home , and what he did on his computer. Etc. A very extensive search has been conducted , both on land as in the ocean , in several ways. So , if you cannot find the body , it is most probably in the ocean. But we have also the story . Joran kept his secret and did not involve other people ( except 2 friends with a false story ). There was no time for things as hiding and a boat trip . The murder was in the middle of the night and after that Joran went home .But he made up a story with those 2 friends. , because he did not dare say he left her alone on the beach .He told police they had dropped her off back at the hotel. So Joran spent his energy with other things ( all kinds of lies ) The police also searched the ocean , taking into account the currents around the island.
