@easternperspective0244 he doesn't want the land. He wants the water and the vast natural gas fields that were discovered off the coast of Ukraine. He is worried they'll become Europe's second petro-state.

@iclicklike3397 russia can import food from anywhere. But their economy is non-diversified and mostly reliant on energy. If another European state were to compete with them it could completely crash their economy. That is the reason of the invasion.

@iclicklike3397 before the invasion EU country would be more than happy to export agriculture to Russia. The Netherlands alone export 90 billion a year and are looking for new markets all the time.
