  2. this works if you have total market monopoly. no competitors. you can pay your workers whatever you want. but we're in global market now where other countries outside of europe aren't playing by our rules. how you gonna compete with countries that can produce products /services cheaper than you, faster than you, and the quality aint' that far off either. also companies and factoreis can just offshore now. then youre totally screwed. trade tariffs. well look at what we got with teh 25% tariffs. largely ineffective. people still bought a lot of foreign goods regardless. quotas a little better but doesn't solve it entirely either. other countries slap tariffs/quotas on your products. you try to sell your products and services out there and no one is buying then what? hence you guys notice the us mainly just exports raw materials/equipment/machinery/food. but back to the middle class prosperity was manufacturing and exporting finished consumer goods which for the most part the us isnt' doing that anymore. i mean the us makes $$$ on arms sales but that can't support an entire country
