  1. in the long run...the rent will eat you alive. rent rises with inflation owning a home if paid off means your only expense is property tax insruance and maintenance. now if you can do many of the maintanence yourself you can save some $, property tax goes up every year but in states with capped property tax it will go up slowly over the year. basically in the long run you lose out on renting as you built zero equity
